The Central Pennsylvania Dog Training Club (CPDTC)

is composed of people interested in general and competitive dog training. Both pure-bred and mixed breed dogs are welcome and encouraged to participate with their handlers in a variety of activities and exercises in order to strengthen the bond between the dog and handler.

CPDTC trains year-round every Monday night from 7:00 to 8:30

The main focus of the CPDTC is largely obedience-based. Members are supported and encouraged to participate in activities provided by the club and in other activities outside of the club including obedience, rally obedience, tracking, agility, pet therapy, AKC Canine Good Citizen, frisbee, musical freestyle, flyball, and conformation.

In order to help foster the teamwork of dog and handler, CPDTC conducts beginner obedience classes and intermediate classes on a weekly basis. In addition, these classes will prepare dogs to become a Canine Good Citizen and/or a therapy dog.

"All classes are taught by knowledgeable volunteers

who have trained and received titles on their own dogs."

Throughout the community, dogs that are therapy dog certified by the club's Therapy Dog Program (TDP) can make regularly scheduled therapy visits with the club to local hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc., each month and participate in several parades each year. CPDTC has several evaluators who routinely test dogs and handlers for the CPDTC therapy program.

The club holds several fundraisers a year to raise money to support club projects, such as purchasing dog oxygen masks for local fire companies, and purchasing additional training equipment.

As a tax-exempt charitable and educational organization, the CPDTC is dedicated to helping both dogs and their owners become responsible pet owners and good citizens.
